2001 : A Space Odyssey (1968) is a SF space epic that explores the existence and meaning of human beings in space through rigorous scientific investigation and extreme imagination. In the film, the Monoliths are symbolic of major leaps in evolution to a higher life form. This massive black slab appears out of nowhere in every phase of the film and acts as a catalyst that triggers epic transition in human evolution.

The conept is to explore emergence of the Monolith as a portal to other dimensions and space. With the use of shapes and shadows created by strong light coming from a prism representing the Monolith, the idea is to solely focus on revealing sequences of Monolith as a gateway and highlight its presence.
